 All About Social Skills

8-Week Saturday sessions meet at the following times throughout the year to promote positive social interactions and parent support for children with special needs:

Advanced Language Group: 9:15-10:30 A.M.

Parent Support Groups: 9:15-10:30 A.M.
*NEW*                            11:00-12:00 P.M

Emergent Language Group: 11:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M.

Advanced Language Group:
The Advanced Language Group is designed for children with adequate to strong verbal communication that need improvement with age appropriate social language and behavior skills.  The program aims to help participants learn more successful group play behaviors through activities that build teamwork, storytelling skills, group discussion, group problem solving, team spirit and enforce following directions. Group play is directed by a skilled team of occupational and speech therapists, along with trained volunteers and staff.

Emergent Language Group:
The Emergent Language Group is designed for children who are pre-verbal and are learning the basic skills of communication.  Our staff works with children in group sensory-motor activities, during which turn taking and interaction with others is emphasized.  Both a speech and occupational therapist will
conduct activiites that utilize visual, auditory, and tactile cues to stimulate turn taking, interaction, and independent communication.

  Parent Support Group:
Our parent support group meets from 9:15-10:30A.M and from 11-12 P.M.  These groups provide support and friendship for parents who have children with special needs.  All parents are invited to attend the group, with childcare provided in the lobby. For more information, please contact the Childrens Center.
